The Story of Dufresne's

as told by Nancy Dufresne Scheewe

DU FRESNE'S AUTO SERVICE, INC started in business December 11, 1968. Originally I was working as a bookkeeper for service stations. We purchased our first Shell station with $10,000 borrowed from my dad's credit union. Eventually, we had 4 Shell Stations. Our growing children both worked at our stations for many years... first cleaning up, then pumping gas, doing the books and finally managing a couple of the stations.

These are our employees When Shell Oil Co. pulled out of the Portland Market, we had owned an old 2 bay shell station. We remodeled, turning it into a six bay Auto Repair Facility with a drive through Espresso. We wanted to stay in the same area, keeping our long time loyal customers.

We have seen many changes in the automotive industry from doing everything by pencil to the computer age. We have 6 computers for management and hi-tech automotive analysis and repair. This equipment helps us do the repair professionally and correctly on the newest models the first time. My employees are always attending seminars, keeping up todate with current automotive changes. Our shop is an authorized DEQ-CERTIFIED VEHICLE REPAIR FACILITY. To qualify, a facility must have the correct equipment and the mechanics must have passed certain tests.

A little about each of our employees

TECHNICIAN
Larry Kosse started as a service station attendant in 1972 right out of high school, became the manager, went on to become an ASE Certified mechanic. He does it all from electrical to driveability.

TECHNICIAN
Gerry Reid, a master ASE technician and DEQ certified, came to work in September 1987. He started in the automotive field 1975 and does everything from engine transplants to Air Condition repairs.

LUBE TECHNICIAN
Scott Cabrera, an ASE Certified Technician, an expert lube technician, came to work for us in 1998. He does a thorough checkover of each vehicle, preventive maintenance checks, vacuuming the vehicle and washing the window on each oil change.

SERVICE WRITER
Dave Harden, an ASE Certified Technician, has been our service writer since 1996. He test drives the vehicle for the reported problem, assigns the work to be done, orders the parts, test drives the vehicles after the repairs, making sure the repair is done right before the customer picks up their vehicle.

ESPRESSO BARISTA and everything else
Tanya (TEE) Du Fresne Clunas came back to work for us in June 2003. Years ago, she worked in the office doing books for our 4 stations. She left us and became finance manager for a Toyota dealership. She now brings her expertise to our operation.
